Volcán Poás

Subindo a montanha das plantações de café chegamos a outro vulcão, o Poás. Todos os vulcões da Costa Rica estão localizados dentro de parques nacionais, ou seja, áreas protegidas e cuidadas pelo governo.

Depois de chegar ao estacionamento ainda fizemos uma caminhada de 10 minutos até onde se pode ver a cratera, e para nossa decepção o lugar estava coberto de neblina e fumaça, tão forte que arde os olhos. Ficamos por ali alguns minutos olhando para todo aquele branco, quando de repente o vento soprou e começamos a enxergar lá embaixo (diferente do Irazú, que está adormecido há muitos anos, o Poás fica constantemente liberando gases e fumaça). E como em um passe de mágica, conseguimos ver nitidamente toda a cratera e sua lagoa verde.

O Poás passa a maior parte do tempo assim, coberto de neblina, mas em certos dias do ano, com muita sorte, pode-se enxergar ao mesmo tempo o Oceano Pacífico e o Atlântico (justo na região do Caribe)!

Going up the mountain through the coffee plantations, we arrived at another volcano, the Poás. All of the volcanoes of Costa Rica are located in national parks, protected areas that are taken care by the goverment.

After reaching the parking lot we still took a 10 minute walk to the place where we could see the crater, and to our disappointment the place was covered with fog and smoke, which is so strong that it hurts the eyes. We were there for a few minutes looking at all that white, when suddenly the wind blew and we began to see down there (different from Irazu, which lies dormant for many years, the Poás is constantly releasing gases and smoke). And like a magic trick, we could clearly see the crater and its green lake.

The Poás stays most of the time covered with fog, but on certain days of the year, with luck, you can see both the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean (just in the Caribbean) at the same time!
