Kex Hostel

When it comes to travel accommodation, hostels always divide opinions. Because they are always crowded, with shared rooms and bathrooms, they are not an option for many people, but on the other hand, good rates and the chance to meet interesting people from all over the world make them a great deal for many others.
The Kex Hostel in Reykjavík has totally changed our experience regarding this type of accommodation. Located in an old building where formerly functioned a cookie factory (kex means cookie in Icelandic!) in the city center, the place is huge and has an amazing sea and mountain view. The intimist atmosphere with vintage décor, low lighting and a good dose of humor is another great feature.
Tables, chairs, sofas, books, maps, lamps and many other objects coming from different parts of the world are mixed and make a very special atmosphere in the three floors of the hostel.
At the first story , the reception, a restaurant, a bar and a game room that can accommodate meetings/festivals/conventions and there is even a barber shop! On the second and third floor are the bedrooms, bathrooms and the collective kitchens. There are 3 types of rooms to suit everyone: from suites with private bathroom to bedrooms with 4, 6, 8, 10 and even 16 beds.
With a young staff always willing to help you feel in good company. They are prepared to give tips on places and things to do in Reykjavík and on tours and trips around the country. Very helpful, they even helped us give life to our rented jeep that ran out of battery!
The only problem about staying at Kex is that it is so cozy and comfortable, that it's hard not to want to spend long hours there, seeing a book, surfing the internet or simply watching the fuss. The thing is that everything looks like home, home of a friend who lives abroad and hosts you during your trip!
