Desde que os vikings levaram cavalos para a Islândia no século IX, a raça foi sendo apurada e desenvolvida até chegar a forma que podemos ver hoje: dóceis, peludos, baixos e robustos. As cores são lindas e são muitas variações, existem mais de 100 palavras em islandês para descrevê-las!

Na estrada paramos para vê-los mais de perto enquanto ainda estavam longe, mas rapidamente eles se aproximaram, procurando comida e carinho.

Protegidos por leis, os cavalos islandeses não podem ser misturados com outras raças e só podem ser levados para outros lugares se não forem reproduzidos.
