Wanderlust: The Sketchbook Project

De repente o que era bom ficou ainda melhor. A Brooklyn Art Library na verdade, além de loja, é uma biblioteca. Mas não pense que é uma biblioteca qualquer. Em 2006, um grupo de jovens criou o Art House Co-op, uma comunidade de jovens artistas que organiza projetos de arte.

Hoje, o principal projeto deles é o Sketchbook Project que funciona mais ou menos assim: por 25 dólares você recebe em sua casa um caderno totalmente em branco. Tudo o que você precisa é de muita imaginação para preencher todas as páginas até a data limite. Aliás a única coisa que tem limite é mesmo a data, não importa sua idade, seu país ou sua profissão.

Todos os cadernos começam a fazer parte então dessa biblioteca, que viaja por algumas cidades nos Estados Unidos e até para outros países. Depois voltam e ficam arquivados e disponíveis na biblioteca lá em Williamsburg.

Qualquer pessoa pode sentar e ler os cadernos, que se transformaram em histórias na mão de seus autores. Lá mesmo, na hora, é feita uma espécie de carteirinha da biblioteca e cada autor dos cadernos que são lidos, recebe uma notificação via e-mail! Além disso é possível "navegar" por eles através da galeria digital.

Pedimos à simpática Sara, gerente da Brooklyn Art Library que separasse alguns dos cadernos que ela achasse interessante. Vimos vários tipos de cadernos, desde aqueles que são uma espécie de diário, passando por cadernos que foram transformados em caixas e até outros que aparentemente são simples, mas surpreendentemente lindos por dentro.

Dois dos cadernos que vimos nos chamaram mais atenção. O da americana Brenna Killeen, tema Layers (camadas), o gato, as cobertas e sua cama e o "quase" diário da canadense Kendra Yee, com seus lindos e delicados desenhos.

Suddenly what was good just got better. Indeed, besides being a store, Brooklyn Art Library is a real library. But don´t think it is a regular one.

In 2006, a group of young people created the Art House Co-op, a community that organizes art projects. Their main project is The Sketchbook Project, which is more or less this: for $25 you get a totally blank notebook at your house. All you need is a lot of imagination to fill all the pages until the deadline. In fact, the only limit is the date to return the notebook, it doesn´t matter how old you are, your country or your profession. All the books become part of this library that travels through some cities in United States and even to other countries, then they return and stay there archived and available in the library there in Williamsburg.

Anyone can sit there and read the sketchbooks that turned into stories in the hand of their authors. When you get there they make a library card for you and each of the authors of the sketchbooks you read receive a notification via e-mail! Furthermore it is possible to "browse" them through the digital gallery.

We asked the friendly manager, Sara, to show us some of the books that she considered interesting. We saw several many types, since those that are kind of a personal diary, through books that were turned into boxes and even others that seemed simple but surprisingly beautiful inside.

Two of the sketchbooks we saw, caught our attention. Brenna Killeen, her theme "Layers", the car, the blankets and her bed, and Kendra Yee with an "almost" journal with her beautiful and delicated drawings.

Besides the Sketchbook Project, the Art Co-op website is full of other projects for anyone to participate!
