Na mesma época que fomos para Los Angeles, também visitamos Chicago. A "cidade do vento" ficou na gaveta de posts esquecidos por um tempo e a vontade de compartilhar todos os lugares legais que conhecemos nunca desapareceu.
Na semana passada por acaso descobri que o melhor cachorro-quente do mundo (pelo menos que já comi até hoje!) deixou de ser vendido.
O Hot Doug's era um dos lugares mais indicados na internet para quem visita Chicago. O lugar além de ser famoso pela comida também era conhecido pelas longas filas.
Já sabendo disso, resolvemos ir cedo para a fome não apertar! Depois de esperar por algum tempo finalmente chegou nossa vez e era o próprio Doug que atendia com muito bom humor todas as pessoas.
Além das estrelas do lugar - os vários tipos de salsicha - um coadjuvante não menos importante conquistou nosso paladar: batatas fritas na gordura de pato.
É engraçado pensar que um lugar que fazia tanto sucesso deixa de funcionar, mas a explicação do dono é no mínimo interessante: fechar as portas enquanto aquele lugar ainda lhe trazia algum prazer.
R.I.P. Hot Doug's
At the same trip that we went to Los Angeles, we visited Chicago as well. The "windy city" stayed at the forgotten posts drawer for a while but the desire to share the nice places that we went, never disappeared.
Last week I found out that the world's best hot-dog (at least that I have eaten) stopped being sold.
Hot Doug's was always on the "must go" lists of places to go in Chicago. Besides being famous for the food it was also well know for its big waiting lines.
Knowing that, we decided to go early so the hungry would not strike! After a while it was finally our time to order and it was Doug himself that was at the counter always in a good mood.
Beyond the stars of the place - the various types of sausage - a no less important coadjuvant won our palates: fries fryed in duck fat.
It is funny to think about why a place that used to be so famous stops working, but the owners explanation is at least interesting: he closed the doors while the place still brought him some pleasure.
